Controversy Surrounds Body by Design After Tragic Death Following Cosmetic Surgery

Body by Design, a prominent cosmetic surgery clinic in Nairobi, has come under intense scrutiny following the tragic death of a patient. Amira, a close friend of the deceased, has publicly condemned the facility, alleging that her friend’s mother, Wambui, died due to severe complications arising from a botched cosmetic surgery.

According to Amira, Wambui’s intestines were perforated during the procedure, leading to stool leakage into her abdomen. This caused a severe infection, ultimately resulting in her untimely death. The distressing incident has sparked a wave of outrage and calls for accountability from both the public and prominent figures.

Body by Design is known for performing high-profile cosmetic surgeries on celebrities such as Tanasha Donna, Murugi Munyi, and Risper Faith. Despite its reputation, the clinic is now facing allegations of negligence and poor standards.

Millicent Omanga, the former Nairobi Senator, took to Facebook to express her grief and demand justice for Wambui. In a heartfelt post, Omanga wrote, “We lost a beautiful soul, my dear friend Lucy, due to sheer negligence at Body by Design Hospital. She entered their doors trusting them with her life for a procedure, yet they failed her. This isn’t just a single tragic event; it’s a call for accountability.”

Omanga’s post emphasized the need for stricter oversight and accountability across all healthcare facilities. “Hospitals and clinics like Body by Design should not be allowed to compromise the safety of their patients. We demand a thorough investigation and call for stricter oversight and accountability across all healthcare facilities. Patient safety should never be negotiable,” she added.

In response to the allegations, Body by Design management stated that Wambui had been discharged on October 18, 2024, and developed complications. They asserted that she was later admitted to another city hospital, where another operation was conducted before she died.

Adding to the complexity of the case, Danson Omari, the lawyer representing Body by Design, revealed that a post-mortem examination was conducted in the presence of a team of pathologists. However, the pathologists could not reach a consensus on the exact cause of death, leaving the matter unresolved.

The tragic incident has highlighted the need for stringent regulations and oversight in the healthcare sector, particularly in facilities offering cosmetic surgery. As the investigation unfolds, the public and Wambui’s family continue to seek answers and accountability.
