According to Andore, Mercy had been lured by unknown assailants with a job opportunity in Nairobi and was being held for a ransom of Sh150,000. Andore, who lives in Kitisuru with Mercy, claimed that she had received a call for a job opportunity and left their home on November 4, 2024, only to call him later saying she had been abducted and was in Masai Mara. Andore’s desperate pleas for help from several police stations were met with demands for bribes, leading to public outrage.

However, a detailed investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed a different narrative. Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, working with the Operations Support Unit, arrested Brian Andore for submitting a fraudulent kidnapping report. Their investigations discovered significant inconsistencies in Andore’s story. The first suspect apprehended in the Gitaru area had no connection to the alleged ransom demands, prompting detectives to broaden their search.

Mercy was eventually traced to Oldonyo Orok in Narok South, where she was found safe at the home of George Odada, accompanied by two young girls. It was revealed that Odada was, in fact, Mercy’s real husband. The couple had been married for six years and had a five-year-old daughter. Mercy had traveled to Nairobi to find employment and had been involved in an affair with Brian Andore. When she decided to end the relationship and return to Odada, Andore fabricated the kidnapping story out of desperation.
