FOUR ARRESTED IN CRACKDOWN ON NOTORIOUS PANGA BOYS GANG

Mombasa, Kenya — In a decisive operation to dismantle the notorious Panga (Machete) Boys gang terrorizing residents of Mombasa and its environs, police officers from Mjambere Police Station in Kisauni Sub-County have apprehended four suspected gang members and confiscated dangerous weapons.

The targeted crackdown was initiated following reports of a violent attack on two individuals en route to Kongowea market. Swift action by police officers on foot patrol led them to the Kadongo area, where they tracked down the suspects identified as Ali Yusuf, 24, Said Hamisi, 23, and two 19-year-olds, Ali Swalleh and Siajabu Bakari.

Upon being confronted by the police, the suspects defied orders to surrender and instead launched a violent attack on the officers. In self-defense, the officers opened fire, injuring Ali Yusuf in the left foot. All four suspects were subsequently subdued and arrested. The injured suspect was taken to Coast Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment, while the others were detained at Mjambere Police Station.

The suspects are currently undergoing police processing as authorities prepare to arraign them in court. The police recovered several weapons, including pangas and a knife, which have been secured as evidence.

The Panga Boys gang, predominantly composed of teenagers and young adults, has been a persistent menace in the coastal region, instilling fear among residents through violent robberies and assaults. The police have reaffirmed their commitment to intensify security operations to dismantle such criminal networks and ensure the safety of the public.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities. The ongoing security operations are part of broader efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
