Ayieko’s Mysterious Disappearance and How His Firearm of Slain Was Recovered in Siaya

Willis Ayieko went missing on Friday, October 18, after attending a burial in Gem, Siaya County. His absence raised alarms when he failed to return home and missed a scheduled event in Kakamega the following day. His orange pick-up truck was later found abandoned near a petrol station in Sabatia, Vihiga County, with his body discovered just a few kilometers away.
CCTV footage captured two men abandoning Ayieko’s vehicle. Police have launched a murder investigation to identify the suspects and trace the vehicle’s movements. The motive behind Ayieko’s killing remains unclear, though there is speculation that it may be linked to his role as a Human Resource Manager, possibly involving recent layoffs.
Governor James Orengo expressed his shock and sorrow over Ayieko’s murder, describing him as a “great son of Siaya and a Kenyan patriot.” He extended his condolences to Ayieko’s family and friends, urging an end to abductions and assassinations.

In a related development, a suspect identified as “Mr. Okoth” was arrested in Dandora, Nairobi. Okoth had recently moved into a rented single-room house, posing as a teacher. Witnesses reported that he had a large amount of cash and had been joined by his brother the night he moved in. He was arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) during an unannounced operation and is currently detained at Muthaiga Police Station along with a woman found in his apartment.

Police in Gem Wagai sub-county have also recovered a pistol belonging to the late Willis Ayieko, the Wells Fargo Human Resource Manager, who was murdered earlier this month. The firearm was stolen from Ayieko during the night of his brutal killing. Acting on a public tip-off, authorities were informed that a man and a woman were spotted with a gun in a Toyota Axio, registration number KDN 948B, at Wagai Trading Centre. Responding swiftly, officers from Wagai Police Station attempted to intercept the vehicle. However, the male driver defied police orders, opening fire as he sped off towards Luanda.

The ensuing chase concluded dramatically at Adder Farm in the Kagilo area when the suspects’ vehicle lost control and rolled over. The male driver escaped, leaving behind his unconscious female accomplice, who was later taken to a hospital in Yala but succumbed to her injuries hours after arrival.
Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered a pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition. It was confirmed as the firearm stolen from Mr. Ayieko on the night of his murder.
Further investigations led detectives to a rented house in Sagam Trading Centre within Kanyibwop village. The following items were confiscated from the premises:
- A jungle green sweater and military shorts
- Two pairs of desert storm jungle boots
- Two television sets (40″ and 32″)
- An HP laptop
- A Rolex watch
A woman found in the house was arrested. Police are meticulously examining all evidence, and forensic teams are conducting thorough analyses to uncover new leads in the ongoing investigation.
The investigation into Willis Ayieko’s murder continues as police work to piece together the events leading up to his tragic death.
