Suspect in Lilian Aluko’s Homicide Arrested After Days of Manhunt

Tharaka Nithi County – George Mwenda Mutegi, the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of Ms. Lilian Achieng Aluko, has been apprehended following an intensive manhunt. Mutegi was captured in Kaanwa, Tharaka Nithi County, by a joint team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters and their counterparts in Meru.
The arrest marks the culmination of meticulous investigations initiated on November 1, 2024, the night Mutegi allegedly murdered his girlfriend. Following the brutal killing, Mutegi went into hiding, attempting to erase his tracks.
Authorities discovered Ms. Aluko’s lifeless body on the morning of November 2, 2024, in her boyfriend’s residence in Kahawa West. She had suffered a fatal stab wound behind her right ear and had visible injuries on her face and hips.
Investigations revealed that on the night of the murder, the couple had been enjoying an evening at a local establishment before returning to Mutegi’s home. Neighbors reported hearing loud screams emanating from Mutegi’s locked house, which were soon drowned out by blaring music from his sound system. Unaware that the cries for help would be Aluko’s last, the neighbors assumed the couple would resolve their dispute and returned to their homes.
Tragically, that night ended the life of the 33-year-old radio presenter, known for her promising career and vibrant personality.
Mutegi is now in custody and will face arraignment as the DCI continues to probe the case and investigate other similar incidents to ensure justice for all victims. The community remains in shock over the loss of Ms. Aluko, as her family and friends seek solace and justice in the wake of her untimely death.
