Key Suspect in Blogger Bruce Khajira’s Abduction Arrested at Border
Nairobi, Kenya – In a significant development in the case involving the abduction and sexual harassment of blogger Bruce John Khajira, also known as Chawa – 001, authorities have apprehended one of the prime suspects. Omar Ali Mohamed, also known as Nyanya, was detained at the Lunga Lunga border while attempting to escape to Tanzania.
Omar Ali had been evading capture since the September 12 incident. His arrest is the result of persistent efforts by detectives, who collaborated with the Immigration Department to thwart the escape plans of those implicated in the crime.
A detailed investigation led by a specialized team from DCI Headquarters forensically linked Omar Ali to both the primary and secondary crime scenes. Additionally, it was discovered that he maintained frequent communication with other suspects before, during, and after the incident.
Key to the investigation was the identification of a grey Nissan Note with registration number KDQ 394C, which was used in Khajira’s abduction. The vehicle, rented by Omar Ali on August 20, 2024, and returned on the evening of September 12, was seized by authorities. Forensic evidence confirmed the car’s presence at the primary crime scene—a County Government of Mombasa construction site in Bonje—where Khajira was assaulted for about two hours before being transported to and abandoned in Mwakirunge.
With Omar Ali now in custody and undergoing questioning, detectives are hopeful about capturing other involved individuals. Several accomplices have been identified and are believed to be hiding in various locations across the country. The DCI has urged these individuals to surrender at any police station or DCI office.
Bruce Khajira was brutally beaten and sexually assaulted during his abduction, an act that has caused widespread public outrage. The DCI has reaffirmed its commitment to seeking justice and restoring the dignity of sexual harassment victims, emphasizing that no one, regardless of their social status, will be exempt from prosecution.
