Bettor Who Staged Own Kidnapping Arrested by DCI in Kitengela

KITENGELA, Kenya – In a bizarre turn of events, a 25-year-old man who faked his own kidnapping in a desperate attempt to extort money from his family has been apprehended by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Nobert Mulwo was discovered early this morning in Kitengela township, bound with ropes and gagged with a bloody bandage. His dramatic self-abduction was intended to coerce his sister into paying a Ksh100,000 ransom for his release.

The incident began with a report lodged at Kajiado Police Station last night, claiming that Mulwo had been forcibly taken by two men in a Toyota Probox who had offered him a lift. This prompted the DCI Crime Research and Operations directorate to launch a swift investigation. Their efforts led them to Mutuku Lodgings in Kitengela, where Mulwo was found.
Upon being “rescued” and briefly interrogated, detectives uncovered the truth: the kidnapping was a meticulously planned extortion scheme by Mulwo and his accomplice, identified only as Ndolo. The motive behind the elaborate ruse was revealed to be Mulwo’s recent loss of his entire November salary to betting.
During the operation, detectives recovered Ksh10,100 in cash and the mobile phone Mulwo had used to communicate with his family. Additionally, a scalpel blade and bandages, used to inflict wounds on himself to simulate a violent kidnapping, were seized as evidence.
Mulwo has since been handed over to DCI Kajiado for further legal processing and arraignment.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the lengths to which some individuals may go in desperation, and the diligent efforts of law enforcement in unraveling such schemes.
