Police Seize Ammunition, Military Gear in Isiolo
Isiolo, Kenya – November 28, 2024
In a significant security operation, police in Isiolo have seized a cache of ammunition and military gear, leading to the arrest of four suspects. The operation took place at a police roadblock at Hospital Junction along the Marsabit – Isiolo road at approximately 1:30 a.m. on November 28.
The officers flagged down a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry, registration number KCY 271N, during routine checks. Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, they discovered a concealed brown bag containing a variety of military items and ammunition. The seized items included:
- 142 rounds of 7.62×39 special ammunition, typically used in AK-47 rifles
- 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, commonly used in pistols
- A rifle cleaning kit
- Two pairs of military boots
- A ground sheet
- A military CamelBak
- Military trousers
- Tactical and combat shirts
The suspects, identified as Arako Abdullahi (driver), Ali Hussein (28), Udheifa Yusuf Garre (20), and Khalid Abdi Rashid Garre (18), were immediately taken into custody. Both the lorry and the seized items are currently being held at Isiolo Police Station.
A multi-agency team has commenced interrogation of the suspects to determine the origin and intended destination of the ammunition and military gear. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb illegal activities and enhance security in the region.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the suspects or their possible affiliations, but investigations are expected to shed more light on the case in the coming days.
