Trio of Notorious Robbers Arrested in Gem Yala Sub-County

In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement, three individuals known for their violent crimes, Albert Otieno, Farid Kimutai, and John Okumu, have been apprehended by detectives in Gem Yala Sub-County. This arrest follows a series of brutal robberies that have instilled fear across the region.

The crime spree began on January 3, 2025, when the suspects attacked a timber yard and hardware store near Ulumbi Junction along the Kisumu-Busia highway. Here, they killed the watchman, Jesse Kalasinga, aged 40, and looted various hardware goods, leaving a trail of violence and loss.

Their next act of terror was on January 20, 2025, at Nyang’oma Market. The trio, along with accomplices, vandalized a transformer, causing a widespread power outage. They then murdered watchman Absalom Sande, 29, and severely injured Francis Nyambese, 42, before robbing a phone accessories shop of items including a Dell laptop, three smartphones, and other valuables.

Continuing their ruthless activities, on January 29, 2025, at Yala Market, they assaulted and fatally injured guards Jesse Otieno, 35, and Edward Ochieng, 40. Following this, they broke into another shop, making off with airtime scratch cards, smartphones, and other merchandise.

The arrest of these suspects marks the end of a tense period for the residents of Gem Yala and surrounding areas. Currently, Albert Otieno, Farid Kimutai, and John Okumu are in police custody, where they are being processed for their crimes ahead of their court appearance.

This series of events has prompted a community sigh of relief but also a call for justice for the victims and their families. Local authorities are urging anyone with further information or who might have been affected by these crimes to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigations.
